The objective of the What To Do When… podcast is to discuss common legal scenarios faced by everyday citizens in Virginia. Critzer and Cardani practice law throughout Virginia and focus their practice around the state’s capital of Richmond, in the Piedmont region.
I’m Kara Powell, an associate attorney at Critzer Cardani PC, focusing on criminal defense and family law.
Prior to entering private practice, I served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in two Virginia jurisdictions, handling a diverse range of criminal matters from misdemeanors to serious felony offenses. This experience as a prosecutor provided invaluable insights into law enforcement investigations, case preparation, evidence evaluation, plea agreement negotiations, and trial preparation.
As a defense attorney, I utilize this firsthand knowledge to anticipate prosecution strategies, identify weaknesses in the prosecutor’s case, and develop tailored defense strategies for each client. Understanding what prosecutors need to prove – and how they go about proving it – allows me to advocate aggressively and strategically on behalf of clients facing criminal charges.
I am dedicated to providing skilled, personalized representation for individuals charged with offenses such as reckless driving, DUI, drug crimes, assault, theft, domestic violence, and other misdemeanor and felony offenses.
In addition to criminal defense, I also represent clients in family law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, and protective order proceedings. Recognizing the significant impact of both criminal and family law issues on an individual’s future and family, I offer thoughtful counsel, robust advocacy, and personalized attention throughout the legal process.
Known for meticulous preparation, strong courtroom advocacy, and practical guidance, I diligently protect clients’ rights, reputations, and futures.
